Somatic Therapy

Understanding emotions through the language of the body

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is rooted in the understanding that we are whole beings—mind, body, heart, and spirit are deeply interconnected. Modern neuroscience shows that our nervous system communicates constantly with our organs, muscles, and tissues. What we experience in our bodies influences our thoughts and emotions, and what we carry in our minds shapes how we feel physically.

Research in neuroscience also shows that the brain and nervous system remain capable of change throughout our lives. Patterns shaped by past experiences can be gently reshaped, allowing for greater resilience, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing. With awareness and supportive guidance, it becomes possible to move from automatic, unconscious habits toward more intentional, empowered ways of living.

At the heart of somatic therapy is a focus on developing body awareness and using gentle, body-based practices to soothe and regulate the nervous system. Whatever you may be experiencing, your body holds valuable wisdom and an inherent capacity for healing. Sensations, responses, and patterns offer important information when we learn to listen with curiosity and compassion.

By cultivating an attuned relationship with the body, we can better understand the roots of stress, tension, and emotional challenges. This process supports nervous system regulation and creates the conditions needed to reshape neural pathways in meaningful and lasting ways.

My practice is grounded in Transformative Touch, a somatic therapy method endorsed by the United States Association of Body Psychology (USABP). This approach weaves together intentional, therapeutic touch with supportive dialogue to deepen awareness of mind-body patterns, recognize habits that contribute to discomfort, and cultivate new inner resources. Together, we create a space for healing, self-discovery, and the nurturing connection your body and nervous system are seeking.

Somatic therapy sessions are a collaborative, body-centered experience that explore the connection between your physical sensations, emotions, and life experiences. You’ll remain fully clothed as we blend conversation, guided awareness, and gentled, attuned touch- an approach known as Transformative Touch, a form of somatic therapy that supports nervous system regulation and deeper mind-body awareness.

We begin with 10-20 minutes of conversation to check in and explore what’s present for you physically and emotionally. From there, you’ll move to the table, where we focus on building awareness of sensations in the body and noticing how stress or past experiences may be showing up physically. Touch is always gentle, intentional, and offered with your consent, while dialogue remains part of the process.

Throughout the session, you are always in choice. The intention is to create a safe, respectful space where your body’s natural capacity for regulation, resilience, and healing can unfold.
